Our NRA FIRST Steps pistol course is a general orientation course for shooters who want to learn the fundamentals or want to carry concealed in Florida. We combine about an hour of discussion on on the Florida statutes on the same day of this course. An NRA course completion certificate is issued at the end of the course to document safety and marksmanship training in compliance with FL Statute 790.06 (2) (h).
We also add additional material from other NRA courses as well as courses such as Lethal Force Institute, thus making this the most in-depth 'basic' course in NE Florida. The course usually lasts about six hours and you will load and unload your own firearm and fire between 25 and 50 rounds of ammunition. If you take training at a local gun store or gun show, you'll pay close to $100 and will only get about 90 minutes of training and the instructor will load and unload your firearm for you and you'll only shoot 1 or 2 rounds. That's it.
Before you take any training for your FL Concealed Weapons or Firearm License (a.k.a. Concealed Weapons Permit) contact us. There is a good chance you may already qualify for your license without taking a gun store or gun shop class, or even one of our classes if that is what you choose.
Our facility has a Beamhit laser training system that we often put beginning shooters on. It allows you to practice the safety and marksmanship fundamentals without the worry or distractions of live rounds firing. It also allows for communication between students and instructors as well as allows the instructors to determine any corrections to the fundamentals that may help the student become a safer and more accurate shooter.
We really give you your money's worth here at Accurate Edge, LLC. Beware of shorter courses. For instance, some schools run Pistol Instructor course for only 16 hours. That is NRA's bare minimum time for that course. Minimum!! We usually run that course for about 20 hours to ensure that you receive all of the information and training you need to be an effective NRA trainer.
Course pre-registration and advance payment or deposit are required. No minimum number students required to convene this class. Know that all of our classes are small, usually 10 students or less so the training you receive is semi-private and personalized.
After or instead of the FIRST Steps orientation course, you may want to look at our full day Basic Pistol Class and then after that our full day Personal Protection In the Home and Personal Protection Outside the Home classes. Minimum of 3 students required to convene these basic courses. As above, all courses are small, semi-private training and personalized.
We are currently in the process of adding the NRA Refuse To Be A Victim (RTBAV) to our course listings. We are working on having a RTBAV Regional Counselor on-site so we can offer the Basic course as well as the RTBAV Instructor Development Workshop.
Instructor level courses are for experienced shooters and a pre-assessment is required by NRA to admit the candidate to an instructor level class. These courses are designed to teach you how to teach an NRA basic course.
Training Counselor workshops are for experienced instructors who have conducted / participated in at least 5 NRA basic courses as a Chief Instructor or as a part of the training team, and has taught at least 25 students as part of those 5 or more courses. Training Counselors conduct NRA basic courses and NRA instructor courses.
We do have a live fire range on site. It is currently undergoing some range improvements. While the range is safe to use now, photos will be uploaded once the range renovations have been completed. The key is that having the range on site, we have exclusive use of the range whenever we need it. No interruptions or distractions, making the course much more efficient and enjoyable.
